Multiple parties are involved in the design and implemention of a good safety and health policy. Collaboration between client, executive organization (contractors) and employees is therefore very important.
The Caribbean Safety Standard provides a basis for the parties which creates many advantages for:
The client / principal
- a clear structure for a safety management system and knows what can be expected from the CSS certified executive organization
- responsibility will lie with the executive organization
- the overall quality and efficiency of the organization will improve through clear cooperation between principal and the executive organization
- fewer accidents, injuries and damage to business and environment
- no additional security screening required for executive organizations
- greater understanding between all parties when it comes to safety and health
The executive organization (contractor)
- clients regularly require some form of safety certificates, registrations, manuals etc. and these are often a requirement to be eligible for a contract
- a certified safety management system provides an advantage
- compliance, a recognized standard
- a clear and practical structure
- focused on continuous improvement, added value
- integration with existing systems (such as ISO, OHSAS18001/ISO45001), enabling alignment with the internal systems, but also on the client systems
- arguably less accidents and injuries at work
The employee
- the employee works for an organization that invests in its employees and improving working conditions and complies with the laws and regulations
- the employee can assume that the people with whom they perform the hazardous work are well trained and qualified
- the mandatory Caribbean Basic Safety Training with personal certificate is an official recognized clarification proving that the holder is a professional and safe working craftsman
- skilled employees are valuable to an organization and community
- arguably less accidents and injuries at work
